South African Actor, Presenter and Producer Akhumzi Jezile has passed on. The award winning actor died in a car accident early today (saturday) together with four other people – Actress/Singer Siyasanga Kobese, actor Thobani Mseleni and Skhumbuzo Mbuthuma who was a IT specialist on the music show Live Amp. We don’t have details of the 4th person.
Akhumzi was only 29years old and kicked off his professional career in entertainment as a presenter on SABC 1’s YO TV back in the day at a very young age. He basically grew up on TV in-front of the whole nation. His unlimited talents did not allow him to just be known only as a Presenter, he moved on to Acting and then Producing. What a loss!
My friend sent me a message earlier this evening asking if the news was true because it was all over Facebook & Twitter. I told her I hadn’t heard or read anything. At the back of mind I just assumed it was a hoax. I then called 2 of his closest friends and they confirmed the sad news.
I was left speechless, angry and defeated. He was so young, so fun to be around and so full of life. Even my daughter had those special moments with him. Akhumzi and his best friend Musa used to make our trips to the annual White Star Celebrity Cookoff a lot of fun. Never ever a dull moment with them. Yes Akhumzi had been in the industry since he was a kid, BUT I still believe he was just getting started, he still had a lot to offer. A WHOLE LOT!
This is just too much. We need a break. We have no more strength and tears left as a nation. Rest in peace Akhumzi. Thank you for the fun times, the chats and the craziness. You will sure be missed. To Dr Musa Mthombeni, I have no words. Please be strong, keep your head up.
Sending heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, colleagues and loved ones of all the deceased.
